AdaptiveShop — A simpler way to start selling online
Most ecommerce platforms overwhelm first-time sellers with setup decisions, design systems, SEO settings, and features they don't fully understand yet.
I wanted to build something more approachable: a store that looks good immediately, works without technical experience, and becomes more capable over time as the business grows. AdaptiveShop combines real-time editing, AI-assisted features, analytics, and flexible integrations without making the platform itself feel intimidating. Built with Claude Code.
Problem
Most e-commerce platforms are either too complex or too limited for the people actually using them: first-time sellers, side hustlers, and people without technical backgrounds who don't know where to start with things like SEO or store design. They need something powerful enough to grow with but simple enough to start with. A shop that looks good out of the box without needing a designer or developer. Most existing tools that offer AI-driven features like contextual product selection or auto-generated descriptions tend to gate them behind enterprise pricing, and there's no easy way for a merchant to share a single link that adapts its content based on who clicks it.
Process
Built over 4 months using Claude Code. Development started with core infrastructure (passwordless authentication, Stripe Connect onboarding, and buyer checkout) then layered features iteratively. The design followed an Everlane-style minimal aesthetic with two-column product layouts, dropdown variant selectors, and accordion sections. A tiered subscription model ($7.99–$24.99/mo) was designed so merchants could start with basics and add capabilities like dynamic links, POD integrations, custom domains, and AI analytics as they grew. Security hardening and accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) were built in from the start.
Solution
An AI-driven e-commerce platform with three tiers. All merchants get a customizable shop with product pages, AI-generated descriptions, analytics, BNPL support, and in-person sales mode. Growth and Pro tiers unlock shareable dynamic links, a single URL where AI selects which products to show and rewrites content based on visitor context. Pro tier adds print-on-demand integration across four providers (Printful, Gelato, Fourthwall, Prodigi), product categories with filtering, Google Shopping and Pinterest catalog feeds, cart recovery, team members, and GA4 integration. Built with Next.js, Supabase, Stripe, and Google Gemini.
Outcome
Live in production with all core features, pro tier features, and security hardening complete. The platform includes a full order management system with shipping tracking, returns and refunds, a complete legal policy suite (12 pages), a self-serve help guide, MFA support, and an admin dashboard with merchant moderation. 264+ end-to-end tests cover auth, product management, checkout, and dynamic links across browsers. Marketing site deployed at adaptiveshop.ai with demo shops in browse-only mode. Infrastructure runs at 98% gross margin at scale with fixed costs under $30/month, profitable from the second or third paying customer.
